Impact
Carla Avruskin was “shaken to the core after experiencing the eclipse…the color was striking and the sun seemed more mysterious as it rose the next morning.” Lucky for us she was able to capture the sunrise through her plane’s window as she was flying over Idaho.
Several people have sent me photos and tell me how they were personally impacted by the solar eclipse that happened August 21, 2017.
They are people from different parts of the country and I have been intrigued with their reaction. It was unusually cloudy and rainy where I was that day… and I was very sad I didn’t get to see the eclipse. I even bought the special glasses.
You may have experienced the impact Carla described as she was traveling for a much needed vacation. I know I have.
It’s when the bliss I feel coming home from a long trip suddenly happens when I’m going back for a visit to someplace I’ve lived before.
I’m not sure what Superpower to develop that would allow me to live in a place I love while moving on to the next place I’ll love, but I’m working on it and will keep you posted.
Brace for Impact,
Debbie Donaldson, Champion for Good

Me Too
I was reluctant to participate when I saw the Facebook posts Me Too. It felt like I would be saying I’m a victim, and that’s not how I see myself.
After I read a few stories people shared about triumph, I realized it was time for me to shout from the tree tops…ME TOO!
This conversation is not about abuse or oppression. It’s about how our abilities to Rise Above them defines our lives and develops our Superpowers.
Courage to Rise Above fear
The fear that the abuse would not stop, the fear that no one would believe me, the fear that I would not be loved didn’t hold me back.
I didn’t know it at the time, but Courage was the Superpower ignited within me the day I took a stand and said no more to my childhood abuser.
Confidence to Rise Above shame
For me there was an undeniable feeling of shame that these unspeakable acts of a very sick individual even happened to me. What if it was my fault?
I had to hear it out loud, many times from someone I trusted, to finally believe that it wasn’t my fault. The Confidence I eventually found in standing up changed my life and the lives of those around me for good.
Forgiveness to Rise Above anger
Well if it wasn’t my fault, why did it happen to me? Where were my protectors? How dare they abandon me to this injustice!
Rising above this cloud requires activating many Superpowers, the first is Forgiveness.
The intentional act of Forgiveness brings a healing light into my soul.
Serenity to Rise Above despair
The Serenity Prayer has been the go-to mantra throughout my life when I feel conflicted, need direction or simply need to find peace with my own actions. Even when our actions are for good, it doesn’t always feel that way.
Serenity Prayer
“God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the Courage to change the things I can and the Wisdom to know the difference.”
Thank you to everyone who posted Me Too. Action and Faith will help us all Rise Above.

Superpower Today – GRATITUDE
Gratitude is one of the most shareable Superpowers you can activate today. Here are three ways to find yours and pass it on…
1. Identify one thing you are Grateful for today.
Yes, just one will do it.
Today I’m personally grateful that I can count on the sun to rise and inspire life no matter what is going on the world.
2. Identify one person in your life you are Grateful for today.
Yup, just one will do it today.
I am very fortunate and grateful for this wonderful person in my life who loves to make me laugh.
3. Tell the person today why you are Grateful.
Tell them. Don’t keep it to yourself. Do they have a special talent, skill, gift that you admire or appreciate?
Since I don’t recall ever telling that special person I am so very grateful for his desire to and ability for making me laugh, today’s the day!
Imagine activating this Superpower as a habit every day.
Gratefully yours,
Debbie Donaldson

Transcending Tragedy
Reading news about added security at the 46th annual Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta being held in New Mexico this week is a reminder that we are still reeling from last Sunday’s mass shooting in Las Vegas, Nevada.
In the aftermath of any traumatic event, every person is different in their process of healing and recovery. Whether we are directly or indirectly impacted by the traumatic event, there is a healing process that is unique to every individual.
Like many of my friends, I am having a difficult time grappling with the shooting in Las Vegas that happened the evening of October 1, 2017. I know it has only been a week and it is reasonable that we are still grieving for those affected.
The actions of KINDNESS that so many are taking to improve the lives of those directly impacted is inspiring and important.
Las Vegas Victims’ Fund
As I post this article today, the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund is $10,194,656. The fund was set up on Go Fund Me by Steve Sisolak, Clark County Commission Chair from Las Vegas. Sharing KINDNESS by participating in something that will benefit those directly injured by the massacre has given the 82,685 people who contributed from around the world an opportunity to take action and participate in the healing process.
The Superpower KINDNESS in action does help, but may not be enough.
Why Not Me
Yesterday I watched Eric Church’s video clip from the Grand Ole Opry. He was at the concert and described struggling with the fate that had fallen on his many fans. He celebrated at the Las Vegas concert the day before the shooting and broke down as he described the heartbreak he feels for the people, the fans he feels so close to. He explained that the way he comes to grips with anything tragic in his life is through music so he wrote the song “Why Not Me.”
The feelings of COMPASSION he expresses through his music creates a ripple effect of inspiration and healing. Today the YouTube video has 5.4M views and dozens of reposts and comments with thousands more views. Opening his heart and sharing his Superpower COMPASSION has helped millions in their own healing process.
Connection with those that have activated the Superpowers of KINDNESS and COMPASSION get us closer to healing and receiving the Superpower that lifts us beyond grief.
Memorials
There have been memorials constructed to honor those that were killed. These tender actions give a physical and creative release for those doing the construction. It also gives a location for those of us who need to take action by showing our respects and participating in PRAYER.
Here are links to articles about two in Las Vegas:

PRAYER is a healing Superpower, and is just the beginning.
GRACE is the one Superpower that transcends any tragedy and the overwhelming feelings of sadness and grief that fuels fear or inertia.
GRACE Activated
The first definition of grace on Webster.com is “unmerited divine assistance given humans for their regeneration or sanctification.” As a Superpower, GRACE is activated through PRAYER. GRACE is also activated by connecting to others who freely share their Superpowers with others.
Sharing our own Superpowers like COMPASSION, KINDNESS and PRAYER with others is the fuel that lifts our spirits by GRACE.

Share a little Peace
My heart breaks a little more each day as the news continues to unfold about the horrible shooting that happened in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 1, 2017.
This is my memorial to our unsuspecting brothers and sisters who lost their lives. And a prayer for the grieving families who are still picking up the pieces.
When it doesn’t feel like there is anything I can do to help, I know that Prayer is my go-to Superpower. The light I feel inside gives me a sense of peace that that begs to be shared.
Peace be with you,

Torn Heart
There aren’t words to describe the heart breaking tragic results of a man planning and executing the deadly shooting of a group of people gathered in celebration. The deadliest mass shooting in modern US history that occurred October 1, 2017 at the Route 91 country music concert in Las Vegas will become something future generations read about in history books.
In the present though, those dealing directly with the results immediately following the shooting that killed at least 59 people and wounded more than 500, need our prayers and support now and into the future.
Although I live in Las Vegas, my home is a safe distance from the mayhem and I was in bed before the shooting occurred. I was still sound asleep when my family in different time zones were hearing the news on their way to work the next morning. Since my husband and I love country music and we occasionally attend concerts, my phone was filled with calls and texts asking if we were ok.
After I reassured my out-of-town family and friends, I began checking on my local friends. Some are avid country music and concert fans so I was relieved to learn everyone I know was safe.
My heart felt like it was being torn by the end of the day. Feelings of deep sadness that this man robbed so many people of their lives, health and security were overwhelming. Feelings of intense elation when I saw the hundreds of people lined up to give blood lifted my Spirit.
The numbers of people and companies that have already stepped up in support of survivors of this deadly attack reminds me that as individuals and as an entire race, when our heart is torn, our Spirit is revealed.

How to Discover Your Superpowers
When Hope is Lost Activate These Three Superpowers
What is Hope?
Before we get to the three Superpowers needed to restore or find Hope, we should probably define Hope and talk about the problems that occur when Hope is lost.
The Superpower Hope is positive belief that ignites a chain reaction. What follows Hope is inspired positive action. Those positive actions result in positive change.
Hope without positive action is simply fantasy. For example, I may Hope for a better job, more money, more time with my family or to be rescued from a difficult situation. However, if I don’t take some sort of action, those Hopes are merely wishes that won’t just magically happen.
Absence of Hope
The absence of Hope creates a vacuum that literally sucks. The vacuum sucks in unwanted items to fill the void that was once occupied by Hope. Dark feelings of emptiness and despair creep in to fill the void. They may lead to depression, aggression or other destructive feelings and behaviors.
If Hope is lost, the good news is this Superpower was within your reach at one time. Even if you don’t believe you have ever known or felt Hope, you can take the following steps to activate three critical Superpowers that can sustain you and move you closer to finding Hope. Whether finding it for the first time or whether you have recently lost this Superpower critical to life, the following steps will help you restore Hope for good.
Activating Faith
The first Superpower to activate is Faith. It may seem like it should be more complicated than to simply have Faith. Activating Faith is a decision. Yes, Faith is a decision you can make right now. Make the decision now that all the resources you need will be given or shown to you. Make the decision now that you will recognize the opportunities for solving any situation that is troubling you. Have Faith that the people you need in your life to overcome any obstacle will show up to help you. I find that the simple decision to have Faith in myself and Faith in God can be as comforting as drinking warm cocoa on a cold night.
Believing in something you can’t immediately prove is difficult, so you may want to enlist the help of friends who have this incredible Superpower.
Often but not always Hope is lost because of an unexpected tragedy, illness or death. Having Faith that you can prevail, even through the most difficult situations, will bring you closer to Hope. Faith in yourself and in a higher power that will sustain you and those affected by your loss of Hope is critical to finding the precious Superpower Hope.
My Faith in God has been the life-saving Superpower that restored my Hope many times. Faith helped me each time I’ve lost Hope when facing a problem I was sure would destroy me.
No matter how unbelievable it may feel, decide right now to have Faith.
Activating Love
The second Superpower to activate is Love. Not the heart throb type of romantic love. The Superpower Love is deeper, unconditional, and meant for you. Yes, you must Love yourself – first. Then turn that same life sustaining Love to your neighbors, friends, relatives. Even those you may feel have contributed to your loss of Hope. Love them unconditionally, in your heart, in your mind, deep in your soul. This Love will bring Hope closer to you.
The power of loving yourself first is an insulator from those that may be unwilling or unable to return your Love. They may even have caused a tragedy, illness or death that contributed to your loss of Hope.
By activating Love for yourself first, you will intuitively create the boundaries needed to protect yourself from physical or emotional damage. Loving yourself first also gives you the ability to Love others more completely.
Loving some people that have negatively impacted your life may require ongoing practice and a safe physical distance. Love them anyway as you keep your distance.
You may have figured out by now that unconditional Love, like Faith, is also a decision. Decide today to Love. Even though you may not feel it yet, the Superpower of your Love will bring Hope closer.
Now before we get to the third Superpower, take a moment, relax, get a cup of your favorite beverage. You may want some quiet reflection time as you contemplate the next Superpower.
Activating Forgiveness
The third Superpower to activate is Forgiveness.
If you have been injured by someone who has contributed to your loss of Hope, this will likely be a huge challenge. There are also amazing rewards by activating your Superpower Forgiveness.
As difficult as it may be to activate, it does get easier each time. Yes, you’ll need to consciously activate this Superpower many times – even for the same person or circumstance. Think of a rough, uncut diamond as you consider the situation or person you are forgiving. Now imagine every time you give Forgiveness, a rough edge of the diamond is smoothed away and reveals a brilliant new facet of the diamond. Each surface of the diamond is a new view of the many sides of the situation or person that, over time, is revealed and requires Forgiveness.
I know from experience how frustrating this process can be. Just when Forgiveness feels complete, another rough edge that needs smoothing appears. Remember, this does get easier. Relief along with many other rewards comes each time Forgiveness is activated.
By the way, you are the diamond. You are definitely worth the effort that may feel like intense heat and pressure. That is how diamonds are formed in the earth.
So now you have probably figured out what I’m about to say. Yes, Forgiveness is a decision. It is easier when we feel like Forgiving someone, but that feeling isn’t necessary to make the decision to activate this precious, healing Superpower, Forgiveness. Decide today. If it doesn’t seem sincere, decide anyway. If you don’t think it will make a difference, test for yourself by sincerely, consciously deciding to Forgive.
It is always helpful to surround yourself with others that have the Superpowers you are Activating like Faith, Love, Forgiveness and Hope. Look around for the people in your life who are living examples and it will be easier for you to discover the magic of activating each Superpower for good.
So how will you know when you’ve found Hope?
Hope may return gradually or all at once. You’ll feel the difference as the vacuum is filled with the positive activities required to restore Hope.
There are many different perceptions about Hope, and more than a few books written on the topic. In the book “Hope Is Not A Strategy” by Rick Page, the author describes the specific actions required for sales success. His philosophy gets the attention of sales people and sales managers who want proven action steps to be successful in sales instead of just hoping or wishing for a positive outcome.
I happen to believe holding onto Hope is a strategy for success in life and does require action. If you’re looking for help with positive action ideas to increase your sales success, I recommend this book.
Another book, “Surprised by Hope” by N.T. Wright, refers to hope for life after death. The subtitle of this book is Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection and the Mission of the Church. My belief in Hope has and will continue to sustain me in this lifetime.
However, I’m reading the book because a friend recommended it to me. Reading this book is one of my own positive actions as I grapple with the recent and unexpected deaths of a few friends. I’ll keep you posted on how or if it helps me in coping with losing my dear friends.
The Webster Dictionary says Hope is a verb, which means action. A brief definition is “Hope is to desire with expectation of obtainment.” Hope as a Superpower in this lifetime requires intentional daily action to fulfill our purpose and obtain the successes we desire in this life.
Activating the Superpowers that will restore Hope are simple, but not always easy. However, just one of the incredible benefits of finding Hope for yourself is that it is easier for those around you to find or restore their own lost Hope.
Would you be surprised to learn that you may have within you more than 52 Superpowers? Find out how to unlock them in my new book Superpowers Activated – Discovering the Magic. It will be available on Amazon.com late October 2017.
